W. Edward Newton Jr., CPA
Ed is originally from Huntington, West Virginia. He earned his degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree from Liberty University. Upon graduation, he joined Arthur Andersen & Co. in their tax department. He began his CPA firm in 1977.
As both a CPA (NC License #23103; SC license #8979; VA License #4627) and Certified Financial Planner (Certificate #97181), Ed is uniquely positioned to help clients achieve and sustain a worry-free retirement.
In addition to being the managing partner at NewtonAssociatesCPA, Ed was a commercial pilot for a major airline. Before his retirement his weekend routes included London, Frankfurt, and Rome.
“The analytical and problem solving abilities involved in being a pilot and a CPA are very similar,” says Ed. “Both require the need to minimize emotions from the decision making process.”
Ed and his wife, Millie, have lived in Charlotte for over 28 years. He has three grown children, a son and two daughters, and has been blessed with six grandchildren (so far!).
SaraBeth McCarter Heck
Vice President of Operations
SaraBeth serves as our Vice President of Operations. She establishes staff responsibilities and coordinates functions among staff members. She assigns and delegates projects throughout the process, assigning projects to individual staff members, and coordinating the flow of projects through the office. She assists with new client paperwork and servicing existing clients. She ensures financial targets and other agreed targets are met in all departments and drives the business to increase profit. She also handles payroll management, including tabulation of accrued employee benefits.
She was born and raised in York, SC. She then lived and worked in Charleston, SC for several years before returning to the Charlotte area several years ago.
SaraBeth has been with firm since 2012. She has a background in Sales and Customer Service. She enjoys time with her husband and two dogs, Zelda and Link. SaraBeth looks forward to working with each one of you!
Lisa is a Senior Accountant who joined the team in 2017. Her responsibilities include preparation and review of individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns. Lisa is originally from New York and recently moved to the Charlotte area.
Staff Accountant I/Payroll Specialist
Brittany is a Staff Accountant in our client accounting department. Her responsibilities include administrative, payroll services, bookkeeping, and preparation of tax returns. She is responsible for posting client transactions to the client’s accounting system, ensuring that all accounts balance and the periodic preparation of financial statements. She prepares individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns. She also assists with new client paperwork and servicing existing clients.
She received her Associate’s Degree from Isothermal Community College, along with a certificate in Bookkeeping. She recently received her Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
She is originally from Ellenboro, NC and moved to the Charlotte area in 2014. Brittany enjoys time with her dog Bentley, spending time with her family, and reading.
Staff Accountant I
Daniel joined the team in 2017 as a Staff Accountant. His responsibilities include tax preparation and other accounting-related services necessary to address client-specific needs.
Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Daniel moved to Charlotte after earning a Master of Science in Accounting at Appalachian State University. As a Mountaineer, he also earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. He is currently in pursuit of becoming a CPA.
Staff Accountant III
Nora is a Staff Accountant III who joined the team in 2018. Her responsibilities include tax preparation for individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns.
Nora is originally from New York, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from York College in Queens. Nora and her husband moved to the Charlotte area a few years ago and she looks forward to working with each one of you.
Kristen serves as our Administrative Assistant. Kristen’s responsibility includes providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office. She supports managers and employees through a variety of tasks related to organization and communication.
She manages employee calendars; making travel, meeting and event arrangements; preparing reports and financial data; training and supervising other support staff; and customer relations. She assists with new client paperwork, servicing existing clients, and greeting clients when they arrive at the office.
Kristen earned a Bachelor of Arts from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She grew up in Matthews, NC and had the opportunity to work in Chapel Hill, NC for eleven years before returning to Charlotte in 2014.
Jeff coordinates our marketing efforts including our newsletters and corporate websites. Jeff is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and enjoys his 6 rescue cats, working out and water skiing in his spare time.
